BA3 - Small Folly Iterations (3D)

After researching into different types of folly's and gaining a visual understanding of what they look like, the next stage for me was to start iterating. I feel like my 3D knowledge has improved a lot to the point at which I can now comfortably iterate designs, without having to completely rely on 2D concepting. I will use 2D programs to concept my final designs however, but that won't be until after I've played around with a base I like.
Favourites:
3. I really loved the idea of incorporating a water wheel into my design, and was particularly fond of the image which represented a similar structure inside one of my moodboards. I also thought that a watermill/windmill type design was quite unique and would look visually appealing in a garden. My main concern with this idea would be creating a structure that was too big, as a folly isn't meant to be the size of a large building.
8. A lot of the folly's I originally found were very much focused around the idea of broken bricks and a window. I quite like this as I thought it would produce quite a solid silhouette, which would look aesthetically pleasing. With this iteration however, I would definitely need to watch my topology quite a bit with this one. Even though I need to think about it the whole time of course, there would be many bricks out of place and I would have to be careful of the amount of vetices and faces used.
6. I had always been keen on the idea of adding a dome within my folly, and thought that a small band-stand type would fit well within a garden scene. The only drawback with this is making sure I have a structure that would physically work within the real world, meaning I would need to make sure the foundations would be able to hold up the dome at the top.
Final Decision:
After evaluating my favourite iterations, the one which has stood out to me the most would be number 3. I really want to push myself with the shapes and feel that creating a wheel accurately to one used in a watermill would be a good challenge. I also think the overall shape would lend itself well to creating cartoon-like, hand-painted textures.
Because I can't really create water within my scene, I will do some external research to see if there are watermills which have a base or plank beneath the wheel, in which water could be added in within the game engine (because my image used in the moodboard depics the wheel above a river).
