Week 11 - Promo Image 1
Creative Practice
Promotional Art #1 - Wrath of Koschei
For my first promotional image I wanted it to explore the main villain of my story which was Koschei using his powers. The way I envisioned this would be something like a card from Magic the Gathering, which would feature dynamic lighting and an action orientated pose.
Influences for my Work

My Work
Initial Sketches
Firstly I decided to sketch some possible ideas for poses that Koschei could have while in the image, where the layout was inspired by the League of Legends concept layout by Christian Fell. After completing these however, I wasn't entirely convinced in what I was planning so I decided to use a figure in my next set of images.

Posed Figure Iterations
Like I mentioned above, I wanted to see if I could get some more accurate anatomical composition in addition to something that looked more dynamic. The perfect way to do this was to use my 'Archetype Figma', which is a great anatomy resource I use to help with my paintings and also great for taking photos of when deciding poses.

Sketch - Over Iterations
I quite liked how a lot of these turned out and it gave me a better idea of how I could translate my sketch into a final promotional image.

Process
My process involved painting over the initial sketch and just building up the shadows and lighting.

Final Image
I can't say I'm very proud of this piece because I don't believe it's my best work and I will definitely need to look into dynamic lighting for characters. I feel that I am fairly competent in lighting a stand-alone character but when it comes to putting them in a scene I tend to find it much more difficult to look unified with the background and what's going on.

Industry Advice
Illustrating Fantasy in League of Legends (Youtube) by GDC

At the end of each week I will be looking at job opportunities in my chosen specialism, relating to the role of a Concept Artist and/or Illustrator to further my knowledge of what it takes to be hired within the industry and what employers are looking for. These will include unrealistic expectations that I don't meet as of yet, but I feel that it's good to be aware of them.
Important: Some links may be available at the time of submission if the job has been filled, which is why I have written the date accessed and have presented screenshots.
