Week 9 - University Art Test
University Art Test - Part 3
Because of my tonsillitis at the start of receiving my art test, I was allowed an extra week extension since I was unable to do much work (forgot to mention this on last weeks post!). This week was all about focusing on the materials, choosing my final iteration and presenting it in a clear and concise way. I also went to EGX Rezzed and was able to talk to some students and tutors at the university I was doing the art test for so that was super insightful and really awesome!
Material Rendering
The main materials I looked at were marble, stone, oxidised copper, moss and overgrown foliage, which can be seen in this mood-board below.

To colour these I used photos from Textures.com, using a clipping mask over the original to make sure they stayed inside the image and used different layers for various intensities of effects. Most notably Multiply and Overlay so it would retain just the right amount of highlights and didn't overpower the design too much.

Final Favourites
After much deliberation it now came to the point where I needed to pick my favourites, which were the overgrown mossy stone and the white marble. I really liked the mossy stone one that most because I felt the mossy green placement looked quite natural, especially where it aligns to the curves of the lowest cloth drape on the foundation of the asset design. What I liked about the white marble version was how it was simple but effective and how it makes a lot of sense for a human statue to be made from. The reason I picked both is because I believe that the mossy one would be located outside whereas the marble one would be located in the Scholomance building.

Presentation
I will be submitting my work in a suitable PDF which has a plain white background so my designs stand out, in addition to only using text when needed and giving them their own slide for titles.

Professional Practice
EGX Rezzed - Friday 31st March
EGX Rezzed was really fun and I managed to play quite a few awesome games! Some of the highlights for me were the turn-table action RPG Battle Chasers and the digital card game Fable Fortune, which I also managed to secure a beta key for which was great!

Because I was only attending on the Friday there wasn't much time to look around the expo and attend talks, so I only managed to view the 'Jodie Azhar - Lead Technical Artist at Creative Assembly, 'The Journey from Grad to BAFTA Breakthrough' one at the Ukie Careers Bar. It was really interesting to hear how she started and was able to gain such a prestigious award, she worked really hard and pushed herself to do more which is what I also aspire to do.
